TEFL teachers in Mexico can expect to earn around $900 to $1,200 USD per month.
Yes, non-natives with a neutral accent, a degree, and a good command of English are eligible to apply for our Mexico TEFL internship.
Standard job placements are 12 months in length. Shorter durations (6 months) are also available.
Accommodations are not included in the Mexico TEFL program. We offer furnished accommodations near our campus for approximately $300 per month. Upon job placement, we will assist in finding suitable accommodations that are safe, convenient, and within your budget.
A formal report is not needed. Teachers should disclose any significant mental or physical health conditions when signing up for the Mexico internship.
You may bring a well behaved pet, but be aware most hotels and apartments will not accept pets. You would need to rent a house to keep a pet.
Knowing Spanish is not necessary, but learning a few phrases and words will make you a hit with the locals. In addition to TEFL training, a week of professional Spanish classes are included in your program to ensure you know the basics.
Your placement in Mexico will mainly be at private language training centres which have adult and young learner classes. Some positions may be within the public school system, or corporate training.

For the training portion, teachers will arrive on a tourist visa/visa on arrival. Participants are expected to obtain their tourist visa independently. When a work contract is signed, it is converted to a work visa.
Applicants must be at least 21 years old, though mature, serious 18-20 year olds may be considered. There’s no upper age limit, and mature teachers are often preferred in some schools.
If you are a native English speaker a degree is not needed. If you are a non-native English speaker a Bachelor degree or higher is required for a job placement in Mexico upon course completion.
Our Mexico TEFL program does not have a passport requirement. All nationalities are welcome.
Yes, friends and couples are welcome to apply to TEFL in Mexico together. Flexibility in location is key to ensuring a placement in the same school, or at least in the same area.
We recommend having at least US $1,500 to bring with you to cover personal costs and having a safety buffer before you receive your initial salary payment.
There is no criminal record check required for the TEFL Mexico internship.
The majority of English teaching jobs in Mexico are located in various cities across the country. Placements occur in Guadalajara, Morelia, Nayarit, Mexico City, Queretaro, Tampico, and Veracruz. In the southern region, opportunities are available to teach English in Merida, Oaxaca, San Luis PotosΓ, Villahermosa, Cuernavaca, and Tlaxcala.
TEFL training in Mexico is conducted over 4 weeks in-person. Classes run from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with sessions on teaching skills, lesson preparation, and teaching practice. Observed teaching practice forms a cornerstone of the TEFL course in Mexico.
TEFL Schools in Mexico hire throughout the year. The only time hiring may slow down is around Christmas.
Our team on the ground in Mexico along with your employer will help you find housing. There are various types of accommodations and locations available, and the decision on where to live is based on personal preference. At no point are you accommodation hunting “on your own” during the training and placement.
Medical insurance is not included. All myTEFL Mexico interns need to procure their own medical insurance coverage.
