FAQs South Africa Internship

The TEFL Africa internship is a short term volunteer style program. You will be helping out in underserved communities which have little resources. There is no stipend or salary provided. Part of the program fee is a donation to help support the project.

Yes, non-natives with a good command of English are eligible to apply for our South Africa TEFL internship.

The online TEFL portion takes place prior to arrival in South Africa and usually takes between 3 – 6 weeks to complete. The hands-on experience in South Africa is 4 weeks in length.

Accommodations and meals are included. Transportation to and from the school is also included.

A formal report is not needed. Teachers should disclose any significant mental or physical health conditions when signing up for the program.

Your base will be the lovely beach town of Port Elizabeth. You will be teaching in a local township (approximately 20 minute drive from the city) close by.

TEFL training starts with our 120 Hour online TEFL course which will cover everything you need to handle your own classes. The Orientation in South Africa does not include additional TEFL training.

The start dates are monthly except for around Xmas holidays.

You will have accommodations for the duration of the program. You will stay in a large house near the beach with other volunteers from around the world.

Medical insurance is not included. All myTEFL South Africa interns need to procure their own medical insurance coverage.

This will grant you immediate access to your online TEFL course and provide a link to an application form. Complete the form and submit the listed application documents. One of our friendly Coordinators will reach out via email within 2 days of booking to continue the process.

No, a degree is not necessary to TEFL South Africa.

Our South Africa TEFL program does not have a passport requirement. All nationalities are welcome.

Yes, friends and couples are welcome to apply to TEFL in South Africa together. You would stay in the same accommodations and work in the same township.

We recommend bringing at least $500 USD for personal expenses, tourist activities, weekend excursions with other volunteers etc.

A criminal background check is not required for our TEFL South Africa Internship.

Pets are not allowed on this Africa TEFL internship.

Knowing another language is not necessary, but learning a few phrases and words of Xhosa will make you a superstar with the locals you work with :).

Your placement in South Africa will be at a local elementary school in an underserved community.

As a short term volunteer, you would either enter visa free, or obtain a tourist visa if necessary (passport dependent).

Yes, the program can be extended. There would be additional fees. Please contact us if you are interested in staying longer.
