Five things you MUST do in Argentina

However, while living abroad inherently turns ordinary life into an adventure this isn’t to say (much to the surprise of friends and loved ones) that our existence is a never ending vacation.
No, we TEFL teachers are also susceptible to the occasional restlessness that haunted us in out of homelands. But, what can we say wanderlust is an inherent part of the TEFL teacher’s DNA.
However, luckily for those of us living in Argentina, this place offers enough adventures to subdue the wanderlust at least for a while. So, on that note, here are five adventures that you must undertake while living in Argentina.
1 Visit Iguazú Falls
Argentina is world renowned for its breath taking landscapes. However, out of all the natural beauty this country has to offer, Iguazú is the place that should be at the top of everyone’s must visit list, regardless of whether they live in Argentina or not.
Why? Because, it’s not every day that you get to see one of the seven natural wonders of the world first hand. Just looking at pictures of Iguazú will give you some idea of its mind blowing wonder.
However, as majestic as the pictures are they come nowhere close to what it is like to see this endless wall of hypnotizing water in person. Thus, it’d simply be a crime to leave Argentina without paying them a visit.
2. Go a soccer game
Argentines have a reputation for being passionate people. This is most certainly true when it comes to their favorite sport: soccer.
The atmosphere inside a soccer stadium is electrifying. The roar of the crowd’s wild chanting and burst of colorful confetti and torches are sure to give you goose bumps.
To top things off finding a good game isn’t hard to do as Buenos Aires alone houses a whopping thirteen professional teams and with a rivalry like Boca Jrs vs River Plate you’re sure to be in for a wild ride.
3. Hang out with the Penguins in Puerto Madryn
Located in the southern coast of the country the city of Puerto Madryn is home to spectacularly beautiful sea life.
There you can hitch a boat ride and catch a glimpse of the whales that grace the waters or if you get sea sick you can simply hang out by the beach with the resident sea lions and penguins.
This seaside city offers the type of natural experiences that you can’t find anywhere else in the world. So, whatever you do while there, a trip to Puerto Madryn is sure to leave you feeling refreshed, excited about life, and full of new and valuable memories.
4. Live like a gaucho in Cordoba.
The sierras of Cordoba are world famous for their scenic views and outdoor way of life. There you can easily shed your teacher identity to be a weekend guacho.
You can easily find a guided tour on horseback through the mountains that ends in a campfire and asado under the stars. Which you’ll come to find is the perfect escape for those who get tired life cooped up in the concrete labyrinth that is Buenos Aires, the hub of all TEFL activity here in Argentina.
So, if need to let your inner cowboy or girl out every now and then, Cordoba is a must while living in Argentina.
5. Go on a bike ride through the vineyards in Mendoza.
I’ll be honest, I first came to Argentina to study abroad and what swayed my decision to come to Argentina instead of another South American country was one thing: wine.
I suppose I shouldn’t be too ashamed, who doesn’t like a nice glass or two of nice Merlot every now and then. Here wine is a customary part of any get together and Mendoza is the epicenter of wine culture.
In the mountains of this region you can take tours on bike of the vineyards while sampling their savory fermented nectar. So, if you too like to think of yourself as an amateur wine connoisseur (or wine-o as my friends affectionately say) then Mendoza is another must do in Argentina.
